The Outsiders and a Stick of Gum
The Outsiders (and a Stick of Gum)
A Celebration of (Mostly) Untrained Brilliance!
There is a form of art that is often referred to as “Outsider Art’ or ‘Art Brut (Rough Art)’ based on the fact that the artists who created them are often times untrained or unconventional in some regard, as is their art. Some of this exact art is among my favorite being created and the artists are often as colorful as their work! This is a week that I would like to share and celebrate a few of them with a great group of kiddos!
Two of my favorite artists that will inspire us over the week to create our own work will be Judith Scott and Nick Cave (though not entirely an outsider artist as he has an art degree, but i simply just adore him and wanted to share him with the kiddos!), two artists who I believe create almost a Disneyland of Fiber Art! Two others with artistic skills which will appeal greatly to children will give us a couple of extra projects over the course of the week as well! Projects we will create this week will include Judith Scott inspired hanging fiber orbs, a DIY Nick Cave inspired Soundsuit, gum paintings and foil sculptures!
Classes are held at my studio located in the upstairs of the Carriage House Gallery, located directly behind the Tulsa Garden Center at 2435 S. Peoria.
* This session is open to 4 year olds who parents feel are quite mature enough to handle an intensive 3 hour class. Please use best judgement. Thank you!
